Question Celebration Holidays

I have a question going to the campaigns... I have Prophecies and all of the events are only included in Factions. I don't have any money and I don't want to buy Factions when Nightfall is coming out. So basically my question is... Do they still celebrate holidays such as Christmas on Guild Wars Prophecies?

Why do all the events have to be on Factions?

We don't know where future holidays will be held, but it seems logical that for the major events such as wintersday, all of the chapters will be included...

I wouldn't count on all chapters being included in future holidays. Considering the number of towns that would have to be decorated, new NPCs placed to handle the holiday gifts, and the quests that would have to be built for each continent, it would be a tremendous amount of work to stretch a holiday over three chapters. While I'm certain that the newest chapter will always be a part of holiday events, I think it's doubtful that past chapters will see any more holidays. Personally, I'd prefer them to only do the newest chapters, and spend the time it would have taken to build holiday events for the previous chapters and use it to create new content and fix current bugs.

Default well..

Did i read some where that they have a group that specificly does the celebration events. Also they have done events in the past all they have to use that again, mabey a little update here and their for presents and stuff and they can do it again. I wouldn't be suprized if they don't have some that go across all the chapters, but we will see.

Wherever the events are I hope they do it like the dragon festival where you collect a item and trade it for something. I don't like it when presents just appear on the ground and whoever grabs it first gets it. Some people get very greedy and a fight will start because someone says this is their spot. I want it so everyone can get something without being the fastest or having to be online at the top of every other hour.

Lightbulb It's all about the money and resources.

From the Guild Wars FAQs:

Quote:
Will Guild Wars (Prophecies) be updated with new content when Guild Wars Factions is released?
Producing extensively expanded content for Guild Wars (Prophecies) is not planned at this time. The development team is putting its efforts into creating the best possible new release in Guild Wars Factions. It is possible that there will be intermittent updates for Guild Wars that include modest amounts of expanded content or seasonal event content. And of course, updates such as skill balance changes will apply to both Guild Wars and Guild Wars Factions. The bulk of new content development will take place in Factions.
Based on resources and costs, only maintenance will be conducted with Prophecies and I will assume when NightFall is released, Factions will be in a maintenance-mode too. A company like ArenaNet can not invest resources for 'special events' in older games. Paying employees to develop code for such events in past games is a waste of money. Developers should be concentrating efforts in future releases and current game development.

Since NCSoft's main revenue is ArenaNet's Guild Wars, I would anticipate when NightFall is released this fall, the development team will continue to concentrate efforts toward this game. If there is any planned holiday events, it will probably occur in NightFall. (NCSoft posted the worst-ever performance results due to the lack of sales and subscription-service renewals of games: City of Heroes, City of Villains, Lineage I & II, and the failure of their latest MMORPG Auto Assault.)

The only anticipated game to generate end of year revenue for NCSoft/ArenaNet will be the release of NightFall. NCSoft invested a lot of money in pay-to-play game Tabula Rasa, which is expected to be release the fall, but the game was a total flop at E3. Additionally, NCSoft North America had a major layoff back in June/July which sent about 70 developers home. This is possibly an indication that NCSoft will continue to loose profits and rely heavily on ArenaNet as its main income source.

I am to lazy to find the link, but Gaile has been asked if the Mad King (Halloween) will return to Tyria and her reply was something like 'I hope he will and expect him to.'

I would not look for new events in Prophecies but will be shocked if the Mad King and Wintersday are not repeated. The work is done, all they have to do is reload the relevant code for a few days.

Very true, but the developers may have to tweek the 'event code' because may not be as simple to roll back/reload a previous version (dot release). That will take developers off task to tweek old code. It is a good idea to repeat these events, to keep people interested in the early chapters, but I do not know if it is worth the time and resources.

Considering most of the work has already been done for halloween and wintersday in Tyria, I view it (I'm not necessarily right mind you) as fairly simple going forward for them to reskin the previously skinned towns in their holiday regalia.

As for ;

If you don't have Factions, you won't get the Factions additions (skills, classes, titles, armor, alliance battles, etc).

The problem with this is that those around for last year's holiday events will more than likely be upset if it's exactly the same this year. People want and expect something different.

possibly you but most will be happy with the original halloween/winterday events.

there was an article that stated clearly (jeff strain) that while major NEW content was not planned for old chapters the 3rd team for events/etc would most certainly continue recurring holiday events.

also can you imagine the backlash at no halloween/winterday events considering how popular they were?

new major content added no.

recurring event content yes

This supports what I said in my #6. What he probably did not make clear was the "Recurring Holiday Events", that people have seen in early chapters, will likely apply to the most current chapter in Guild Wars.

I would think that maybe, the people of cantha and elona don't celebrate the same holidays as tyrains, since tyria didn't get the dragon festival

or have the celebration at different times, like the chinese new year compaired to when other countries have theirs

Ya probably. The halloween event is probably tyria only (I read in some post that it said somewhere in-game that he was born in ascalon or something) so you will probably have to have prophecies to go to the halloween event. Since the dragon festival was cantha-only I'm thinking it will stay cantha only. But the wintersday event, wasn't that a event for the gods or something? And since all continents believe in the gods....

I'm thinking maybe there is going to be one single event that is only on that continent for every continent (as like a promotion to get you to buy that chapter or something so you can participate) and then there will be 1 pre-order event (like the tengu event,) for each continent, and then there will be one event that is for all continents (I'm thinking that it will be wintersday if they do this).

I think Winterday will repeat every year and will be exactly the same as the last one, exept it will have a few new locations.

The events that are continent specific will also repeat and be exactly the same, but they won't ever get new locations (unless maybe the main luxon town and main kurzick town will change next year. That would be cool and they are big cities...).

Then the pre-order events will probably be a one time thing only as a reward to the people that pre-ordered, or if you have added a pre-order key, then a npc will give you access to an area where you can do the event, but if you don't have the pre-order key, then the npc doesn't give you the access. That way the event would also repeat and if you are like me and weren't able to get the masks/customized items for all your characters, or you got new characters (character slots were released, and we will get new slots for new characters every chapter and new classes to fill up those slots) and want to get the masks/customized items for those character, then you can.
